A DAY EXCURSION TO FLORENCE - TRIP CODE: DAYFLORENC

Meeting of guests on the Italian Riviera and private transfer to Florence. Arrival at the wonderful terrace called Piazzale Michelangelo named after the artist who sculpted the original statue of David. To get there, you pass through the most panoramic road in the city of Florence, called Viale dei Colli. Nearby you can see the splendid white and green marble facade of the church of San Miniato al Monte, one of the purest examples of the Florentine Romanesque style.

After leaving the church, you follow an uphill road, bounded by the ancient city walls, until you reach Forte Belvedere, built in 1590 by the Grand Duke Ferdinando to protect the Medici villas. Coming down from the Fort, passing through the old city gate, Porta Romana, you arrive at the imposing Palazzo Pitti, which houses various galleries and museums (Modern Art Gallery, Costume Gallery, Palatine Gallery, Royal Apartments, Carriage Museum, Museums in silver and porcelain, etc.) and a magnificent park called the Boboli Gardens. Then we head towards the exact center of the city, in Piazza della Repubblica, surrounded by the historical literary cafes, where important intellectuals gathered long ago. Following Via De Calzaiuoli, which connects Piazza del Duomo (Santa Maria del Fiore, Baptistery, Giotto's bell tower) to Piazza della Signoria (Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi, etc.).

You arrive at the Basilica of Santa Croce. The Basilica is the largest Franciscan church in the world. Its most notable features are its sixteen chapels, many of which are decorated with frescoes by Giotto and his pupils, its tombs and cenotaphs.
